I recently traveled to Chateau Lake Louise for a family wedding. While a beautiful location for a wedding it isn’t quite student budget friendly. A smoothie at one of the hotel restaurants would have costed me $17. I wanted to be able to eat healthy without breaking the bank.
We prepared by grocery shopping in bigger grocery stores before we got to the hotel. Some staples included my Oatbox granola, yogurt, oatmeal, frozen fruit, dried fruits, nuts, cheese, crackers, peanut butter, jam and bread. My family also baked lots of loafs, muffins and cookies for snacking. We brought a kettle and our magic bullet blender to make oatmeal and smoothies for breakfasts. Our hotel allowed us to request a mini-fridge from the hotel. Other family members were able to also request a microwave to make popcorn or heat up food. Check with your hotel to see if you can request a fridge or microwave. Make sure to request this before you arrive!
We tried to eat breakfast in our rooms each morning to save some money. It was easy to heat up water in the kettle for oatmeal, or you can use the hotel coffee pot! I brought my Oatbox granola to make yogurt parfaits for breakfast or snacks. Smoothies are another easy morning choice.
At lunch we made simple peanut butter and jam sandwiches or ate from a meat, cheese, cracker and fruit spread. For dinners we found picking up large salads from a local delis is a cheaper alternative than going out and fed the entire family for a lot less money!
Having a ton of snacks on hand helped us save a lot of money. This was handy as we often were out skating, snowshoeing or skiing and were able to take stuff with us on-the-go. Check out my list below of my top 10 hotel friendly snacks!
