Hello Fresh Meal Subscription Review

Hello Fresh is a new meal subscription service to Canada. I have been very happy with the meal subscription boxes I have ordered from Chef’s Plate so I figured I would try another service. Hello Fresh currently delivers to  Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland, and the Maritimes.

Lentil Sloppy (Holly) Joe

UBC’s Food Services ran a competition for nutrition month searching for a recipe that would be featured in the dining areas on campus for Meatless Mondays. I entered my Lentil Sloppy Joe recipe and it was chosen from over 70 recipes to be featured this summer and into the fall. I had the opportunity to work with UBC’s executive head chef David Speight to perfect my recipe. Continue reading

Eating on a Budget in Hotel Rooms

I recently traveled to Chateau Lake Louise for a family wedding. While a beautiful location for a wedding it isn’t quite student budget friendly. A smoothie at one of the hotel restaurants would have costed me $17. I wanted to be able to eat healthy without breaking the bank.

We prepared by grocery shopping in bigger grocery stores before we got to the hotel. Continue reading

April Oatbox Review

I skipped my March Oatbox so I could catch up and finish my granola from previous months. The skip process was very simple and can be done online. I was very excited to receive my April’s box, especially during my final exam season when grocery shopping can be more challenging. The two April granola blends were Apricot, Black Tea & Maple granola and Maple & Walnut granola.

Chef’s Plate Review: November 14 – 20

Chef’s Plate is a meal delivery service that delivers ingredients for recipes of your choice to your door. I did not have to spend time trying to figure out if I have all of the ingredients to make a certain dish – everything I needed was delivered! My first delivery was great so I decided to order Chef’s Plate again during a busy week of school assignments and presentations. I live alone and I found buying the three-meal plan was too much food for leftovers so I chose the two-meal plan. For the two-meal plan you do have to pay $6 in shipping. I was very pleased with the fish I received last time I ordered so I knew I wanted another seafood dish and the Lemon and Za’atar Basa dish sounded perfect! The Moroccan Turkey Tenderloin sounded like a great second dish.

Chef’s Plate Food Subscription Review

Cooking is one of my favourite activities, however buying groceries to cook is one of those chores that I find hard to fit into my schedule. Especially during a busy exam period, grocery shopping is often forgotten. I wanted to find a food subscription service that delivered all of the ingredients for a meal, allowing me to do the cooking at home.  I discovered Chef’s Plate which allows you to chose which meals you would like each week and delivers the ingredients to you at home. I did not have to spend time trying to figure out if I have all of the ingredients to make a certain dish – everything was delivered to me except olive oil, salt and pepper.
